If we see, first comes attraction. When it becomes a little difficult to attain what you are attracted to, then love arises. When we try to possess what we love, it loses its beauty and gives us pain. Whatever you try to control turns ugly. That is why love based only on qualities is not stable because qualities and situations change all the time, and when love relies on these qualities, it remains on shaky grounds. But when love is based on belongingness, it becomes unconditional and can last for lifetimes.
When you love someone, they are always on your mind. Ordinary things become extraordinary. You want to see them happy, and you feel you have not done enough for them. Yet, this love often carries fear of loss. And love with fear cannot blossom fully. It brings jealousy and insecurity. Such love often diminishes with time.
Your love has remained limited. You have never loved something enormous, because you have not yet become enormous yourself. Joy is expansion, and divine love is pure joy, untouched by the distortions of love.
Divine love, on the contrary, keeps growing as time passes by. The more time you spend, the more time you want to spend. It is uninterrupted and unconditional. You are in love because you cannot help but be in love. It is your very nature. If there is anything in this universe that cannot be defined, it is love, and finds expression in sharing.
Do you know what Bhajan really means? Bhajan is often mistaken to mean just singing, but Bhajan also means sharing. The word itself means having a beloved, having a valentine in your life. When you have a beloved, their name comes to your mind again and again. You do not make an effort to remember. It happens naturally. In the same way, when the Divine becomes your beloved, remembrance happens on its own. That is Bhajan. A partnership with the infinite cosmic power, not with something small.
Devotion is love with the flavour of gratitude. If you are not grateful, you can forget about devotion. Devotion does not need any qualification. For everything else, you need degrees and education, but for love, do you need education? It can blossom anywhere.
When the Divine becomes your life partner, loneliness disappears. When life is offered to the Divine, worries disappear, and one smiles through all situations.
The deepest form of love is longing. An intense longing that becomes bliss. Missing the Divine shows how deeply you are in love. At one point, longing itself turns into joy.
A relationship becomes long-lasting through right perception, right observation, and right expression. When love springs from belongingness, actions and qualities do not overshadow it. Love needs no proof. Do not ask for proof of love. Always know that the Divine loves you.
