No firing outside Kapil Sharma’s sister’s house in Amritsar, confirms police

AMRITSAR: Rumours circulated on social media claiming that comedian-actor Kapil Sharma’s sister’s residence had come under attack on Monday, triggering panic and speculation before police dismissed the reports. Social media posts claimed that unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants had allegedly fired two rounds outside the comedian’s house before fleeing the scene. However, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the alleged incident so far. The reports also suggested that Kapil Sharma’s sister and brother-in-law lived at the house, while the comedian himself stays in Mumbai with his family. The rumours gained traction partly because Kapil Sharma’s café, Kap’s Cafe, had previously been targeted in multiple firing incidents in Canada, leading to increased concern and intense discussion on social media. When contacted, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar denied any such incident and described it as the work of irresponsible persons and rumour mongers. In a statement posted on X, he said, “Some irresponsible persons are spreading rumors regarding an alleged firing incident outside the house of Kapil Sharma in Amritsar,” and urged people to rely only on official statements. Later, ACP West Kamaljit Aulakh said that he and his police team investigated the matter regarding the alleged firing outside the house of Kapil Sharma’s sister and found that no such incident had taken place either during the night or afterwards. He added that no such incident had occurred and appealed to people not to believe rumours. Notably, the houses of several other VIPs are also located in the Holy City.
