The Seattle Seahawks may not have many obvious holes left on the roster, but one position still draws attention. Right guard remains a question mark ahead of training camp, and that has sparked fresh talk about a veteran addition. A new prediction has now connected Seattle with a former first-round pick who already owns a Super Bowl ring. The idea surfaced when Bleacher Report named free agent guard Mekhi Becton as a possible fit for Seattle. The move would give the Seahawks another experienced option without a long-term commitment, while also creating competition along the offensive line.
Veteran guard Mekhi Becton could give the Seahawks another option on the offensive line
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton included Becton among seven bargain free agents who remain unsigned entering July. While explaining the fit, Moton pointed to Seattle as one of the teams that could benefit from adding the veteran guard.“Although Becton started in 14 of 15 outings with the Chargers, he battled knee and hand injuries that may have affected his performances. The 6’7″, 363-pound guard also suffered a concussion last year. Los Angeles released him before free agency in March,” Moton wrote in his Bleacher Report column.Moton also noted that Becton’s injury history creates risk, but he still believes the former first-round pick can help the right team. The Seattle Seahawks already spent a fifth-round pick on rookie guard Beau Stephens in the 2026 NFL Draft. Even so, Seattle may prefer more experience if the coaching staff believes the offensive line still needs help before Week 1.That brings the focus back to Anthony Bradford. The right guard enters the final year of his rookie contract after an inconsistent 2025 season. He struggled in both pass protection and run blocking, which left room for outside speculation about competition during training camp.Becton brings a different profile. The 6-foot-7, 363-pound lineman entered the league as the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Injuries slowed his progress, and he played only one game across the 2021 and 2022 seasons. However, his career found new life after a move inside to guard. He started 15 games for the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 season and helped power one of the NFL’s best rushing attacks as the team won the Super Bowl. He then joined the Los Angeles Chargers and started 14 games in 2025 before the team released him in March.Seattle does not need Becton to become a franchise cornerstone. Instead, the Seahawks could view him as a low-cost veteran who pushes Bradford while giving the offensive line another proven option. If Becton stays healthy, he could make the competition at right guard far more interesting before the regular season begins. The Seahawks do not have to rush into a move. Still, free agency gives them a chance to add proven depth without making a major financial commitment. If Seattle wants more competition before the regular season begins, signing Becton could become one of the team’s most practical moves of the offseason
