Foot in bus door costs tailor a leg, driver booked

Surat: A 56-year-old tailor lost his left leg after a BRTS bus driver allegedly shut the door while he was boarding and drove off, dragging him for several metres in the Puna area. The accident on June 26 led to severe crush injuries that required amputation, prompting police to book the driver for negligence.Puna police booked the BRTS bus driver for an alleged act of negligence while the victim was boarding the bus.Naresh Gohil (56), a tailor working at a garment unit in Puna, had visited SMIMER Hospital on June 26 for a medical checkup. He then boarded a BRTS bus and got to the Amazia Water Park bus stop.Intent of travelling to Rachna Circle, Gohil waited for another bus. Around 9am, a Route 13 BRTS bus arrived from Parvat Patiya and stopped for passengers to board.Gohil was the last passenger to board the bus. While only his left leg was in the vehicle, the driver allegedly closed the door, trapping his leg.Police said the driver then started the bus instead of stopping, dragging Gohil along the road for several metres. Passengers shouted and raised the alarm, causing the driver to brake and stop the bus.Gohil suffered severe injuries below the knee and was rushed to SMIMER Hospital in a 108 ambulance.A medical examination revealed that the bones below his knee had been completely crushed. Doctors advised amputation. When his family arrived, Gohil was shifted to Mahavir Hospital, where his leg was amputated on June 27.After the complaint, police identified the driver concerned as Suresh Eknath Borse. Puna police booked him for rash and negligent driving and negligent acts endangering human life and safety.
