The Commonwealth is a relic, but the Games are a decent sporting barometer

The Commonwealth Games have a long history. They began in 1930 and were originally called the British Empire Games, when Britain ruled many countries around the world. Today, Britain is no longer the powerful empire it once was, and many people wonder if the Commonwealth Games are still as important as they used to be. The Commonwealth is a group of countries that were once part of the British Empire, but each country now makes its own decisions about world affairs.

Even though some people question the importance of the Commonwealth Games, they still matter a lot to the athletes who compete in them. The Games give athletes a chance to compete against strong international opponents and prepare for even bigger events, such as the Asian Games and the Olympic Games. The competition is not as tough as the Olympics because some of the world’s strongest sporting countries, such as the United States, China, Japan, and South Korea, do not take part. However, the Games are still a good way to see how much athletes have improved.

India had an excellent Commonwealth Games in boxing. Indian boxers won a record seven gold medals, more than any other country in the sport. This was especially impressive because they defeated talented boxers from countries like England, Canada, and Australia. Women boxers such as Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, and Jaismine Lamboria were among the stars. Their success gives hope that they can also do well at the Asian Games and the Olympics.

The next Commonwealth Games will be held in Ahmedabad in 2030. After India successfully hosted the Games in Delhi in 2010, many people are excited to see Ahmedabad host them too. The event could inspire more young people to take up sports, improve sports facilities, and help build a stronger future for Indian athletes.
