NEW DELHI: Preparations are underway for the last rites of former Gujarat chief ministerVijay Rupani, who died in a plane crash in Ahmedabad last week.Also Read: Bodies of 38 victims handed to kin, Vijay Rupani among those IDedThe last rites of Rupani, Gujarat’s 16th chief minister who was in office from August 2016 to September 2021, will be conducted with full state honours in Rajkot. At 11:30 am, the late BJP leader’s mortal remains will be handed to his family at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The remains will be taken to Rajkot by air and brought there at 2 pm.

This will be followed by his final rites at 5 pm.Around 2,000 kilograms of flowers will be used on the hearse van which will carry Rupani’s mortal remains.He was on the London-bound Air India flight which crashed minutes after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12. The former chief minister was to visit his family in the British capital.Out of the 242 people who were on board, 241, including Rupani, lost their lives. Overall, there are at least 274 fatalities, including 33 on-ground deaths.
