Valpoi: A 28-year-old Margao resident, Mabuli Patel, drowned in the Mhadei river at Dhada, near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Valpoi, Sattari, on Sunday evening. Valpoi fire and emergency services and police initiated a search and rescue operation after the incident.Fire officer Santosh Gawas said they received a distress call at around 5.20pm on Sunday reporting a drowning in the river. As the body was not found by evening, the operation was suspended due to darkness and safety concerns.The search resumed on Monday morning, and the body was recovered from the river. It was handed over to Valpoi police and sent for postmortem examination.Further investigation is under way.
