In Group 1, West Indies hold the top spot after a commanding 107-run win over Zimbabwe on Monday. Windies also have a stunning net run rate of +5.350 after the record win – their biggest in the T20 World Cup history. The big defeat left Zimbabwe at the bottom of the group.
South Africa now occupy the second spot after a commanding 76-run win over defending champions India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Proteas have two points and a formidable Net Run Rate of +3.800. It was a statement performance from the side that lost to India in the 2024 final. After posting 187/7, powered by David Miller’s 63 off 35 balls, South Africa bowled India out for just 111 in 18.5 overs. Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen starred with figures of 4-22 in 3.5 overs, ending India’s 12-match winning streak in T20 World Cups.India, meanwhile, are placed third following their heavy defeat and a damaging NRR of -3.800, leaving their semi-final hopes under immediate pressure.
