Guwahati: Three women who were killed in a road accident in Guwahati on Sunday and their friend who was driving the car they were travelling in had consumed liquor worth Rs 19,000 at a bar in the city’s Bhangagarh area between 11pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday, police said on Tuesday.Samim Ahmed, who was driving the car, was on the run since the crash till he was arrested from Dibrugarh on Monday.Traffic DCP Jayanta Sarathi Bora said the investigation shows that all four, including the thee deceased and their friend Samim Ahmed, had consumed liquor at the bar and thereafter, travelled around in the city before going towards the accident spot at Mathgharia from the Zoo Road Tiniali end.“The vehicle hit the parked truck at Mathgharia while travelling at a speed of 96 kmph and had clocked a speed of up to 135 kmph shortly before the crash. The accident took place at 4.02am on Sunday,” he added. The DCP said the GPS installed in the vehicle that Samim had hired for the day from a car rental service provider helped them crack the case.“Investigation revealed that the car is owned by one Pankaj Kumar Dutta of Dhemaji district, who gave his vehicle to one Bhargab Deka to use it for rental service. Deka told the police that Samim wanted to rent the vehicle for a day; but the car was with one Akash Dey. That is how we came to know that Samim had hired the vehicle,” he said. The DCP added that two women were declared brought dead at the Gauhati Medical Hospital (GMCH) and the third woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment.“Samim fled the spot soon after the accident. He stayed in different parts of the city for some time before fleeing to Shillong in Meghalaya. Later, he fled to Dibrugarh.
