Sonai Election Results 2026: Congress's Aminul Haque Laskar wins against AGP's Karim Uddin Barbhuiya

NEW DELHI: Aminul Haque Laskar of the Indian National Congress won the Sonai constituency with 89,957 votes, defeating Asom Gana Parishad candidate Karim Uddin Barbhuiya by a margin of 27,170 votes. Barbhuiya secured 62,787 votes. Trinamool Congress candidate Shahajahan Laskar finished third with 2,280 votes, followed by AIUDF’s Minar Hussain Mazarbhuiya with 1,178 votes.Thirteen candidates contested from Sonai in Assam’s 2026 Assembly Election, along with NOTA.Sonai assembly constituency in Assam’s Cachar district is set for the 2026 election verdict. The seat has a reputation for closely fought contests and remains one of the key political battlegrounds in the region.In the 2021 assembly elections, the seat was won by the AIUDF. Karimuddin Barbhuiya defeated BJP’s Aminul Haque Laskar by a margin of 19,654 votes.Sonai has consistently witnessed intense political competition over the years, with changing voter preferences and closely contested outcomes.
