In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election for Budge Budge (156), Ashok Kumar Deb of the All India Trinamool Congress secured a decisive victory with 1,27,091 votes, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Dr Tarun Kumar Adak, who polled 80,241 votes. TMC won by a margin of 46,850 votes in the constituency. Congress and other smaller party candidates finished far behind, while NOTA recorded 1,993 votes.Budge Budge (constituency no. 156) is a semi-urban constituency located in South 24 Parganas district, under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency encompasses the Budge Budge municipality and adjoining areas along the Hooghly River. The area is historically significant as an industrial corridor, with petroleum installations, jute mills, and other manufacturing units. Budge Budge has a strong labour movement tradition rooted in its industrial character.In 2021, the TMC held Budge Budge. In 2016, TMC also won the seat. The TMC candidate in 2026, Ashok Kumar Deb, is a veteran politician with a long history in this constituency, having won Budge Budge multiple times since the 2001 and 2006 elections, first as an INC candidate and later as a TMC leader. His deep familiarity with the constituency is a significant asset. BJP’s Tarun Kumar Adak and Congress’s Mujibar Rahaman Kayal provide the opposition challenge. The industrial worker community remains a critical vote bank, and the TMC’s welfare programmes for workers have been a key campaigning tool. Ashok Kumar Deb’s personal popularity makes him one of the stronger TMC candidates in South 24 Parganas.
