Gang luring youth with lift offer busted; couple held

Times News NetworkPanchkula: Police have busted a gang accused of trapping a young man on the pretext of giving him a lift and robbing him of his cash, mobile phone and motorcycle. The arrested accused are husband and wife.The main accused has been remanded in three days of police custody, while his wife has been remanded in judicial custody. Police are conducting a detailed investigation to trace other absconding suspects and recover the stolen property.The complainant alleged that on June 20, he was riding a motorcycle from Panchkula to Amravati when a woman requested a lift to Pinjore. He agreed. Later, the woman took Rs 50 in online payment from him. Soon after, she called him to Ishar Nagar, saying she wanted to pay him back.He said when he reached the location, two men joined her and one claimed to be her husband. The three of them allegedly threatened the victim and forcibly took him to an ATM, where they withdrew Rs 22,000 from his bank account. They then allegedly snatched his mobile phone and motorcycle, forced him into a car, and abandoned him in the Lohgarh area before escaping.Investigations led to the arrest of main accused Balwan Singh, a resident of Kaithal district and his wife, Savneet Kaur, on June 25.Balwan Singh was produced in court and remanded in three days of police custody, while Kaur was sent to judicial custody.During the remand, police will question the accused to identify and arrest the remaining suspects. Efforts are also underway to recover the stolen Rs 22,000, the victim’s motorcycle, and mobile phone. Investigators are also examining whether the gang was involved in similar crimes in Haryana or other states.
