KOLKATA: Bulldozers will not be allowed in victory processions and political rallies, Bengal DGP SN Gupta and Kolkata police commissioner Ajay Nand said Wednesday, after CEC Gyanesh Kumar directed authorities to arrest those involved in post-poll violence following two deaths and reports of widespread vandalism. If any cop is found to have “not acted enough” to stop illegal demolitions despite being present, action will follow, Nand said, referring to demolitions of structures in the city’s New Market area using a bulldozer Tuesday night. “From now, prior permission is required for holding victory processions.” He also asked citizens not to believe in fake news. Gupta said 200 FIRs had been filed post-election, leading to the arrest of 433 people.
