Chandrapur: A meticulously planned operation by the forest department ended successfully after two leopard cubs rescued from a well in the Tumsar forest range of Bhandara district were reunited with their mother late on Tuesday.The cubs, estimated to be around six months old, had fallen into a well at Yerli village on Monday. Forest personnel rescued them unharmed. An initial attempt to reunite them with their mother that evening failed as the leopard did not return despite hours of monitoring.Determined to reunite the family, officials placed the cubs in a secure cage at a safe location in the forest on Tuesday evening, hoping their calls would draw the mother back.The effort paid off around 9.30 pm when the mother leopard cautiously approached the enclosure. The cubs immediately ran to their mother, who led them back into the forest.Assistant conservator of forests Ritesh Bhongade said the operation was a model example of scientific and compassionate wildlife management, demonstrating that conservation extends beyond rescue to ensuring animals safely return to their natural habitat.Box: Man killed in tiger attackIn a separate incident on Tuesday afternoon, a resident of Gobarwahi village was killed in a tiger attack while grazing cattle in the Sodipur forest area under the Tumsar forest range. Forest officials reached the spot, completed the necessary formalities and sent the body to Tumsar Rural Hospital for postmortem.
