'Tejo Mahalaya' dispute reaches Allahabad high court; hearing on July 6

NEW DELHI: A writ petition was filed before the Allahabad High Court on Friday seeking a declaration that the Agreshwar Mahadev Nagnatheswar Virajman Tejo Mahalaya temple exists within the Taj Mahal complex. The petition is scheduled to be heard on July 6.The plea challenges orders passed by courts in Agra, where both the Civil Judge (Senior Division) and the Additional District Judge had declined to appoint an advocate commissioner to conduct a survey of the disputed premises.According to the petitioners’ counsel, Saumya Srivastava, a declaratory suit was filed in 2015 before the Civil Judge (Senior Division), Agra, seeking a declaration that the Agreshwar Mahadev Nagnatheswar Virajman Tejo Mahalaya temple is situated within the Taj Mahal premises.During the pendency of the suit, the petitioners had moved an application seeking the appointment of an advocate commissioner to survey the site. However, the district courts declined to grant the request, prompting the petitioners to approach the high court.The writ petition has been filed by the Agreshwar Mahadev Nagnatheswar Virajman Tejo Mahalaya temple, along with Hari Shankar Jain and four others.The Union of India, the Archaeological Survey of India and two other parties have been named as respondents in the case.(With inputs from PTI)
