TVK GOVT WILL LAST 50 YEARS, NOT FIVE, RAJMOHAN REPLIES TO STALINTimes News NetworkChennai: TVK minister Rajmohan on Sunday contested DMK president M K Stalin’s remarks that the C Joseph Vijay-led govt may not last five years, and said it would continue with public support for “50 years and beyond”.“Earlier, he [Stalin] had said we would never come to power. But we formed the govt. Now he is predicting that the govt will not last five years. With people’s support, this govt will continue for the next 50 years too,” Rajmohan told reporters. The remarks came days after Stalin reportedly told DMK functionaries that the TVK govt could collapse at any time and asked cadres to prepare for possible early elections. To questions on law-and-order issues raised by opposition parties over incidents reported in Coimbatore and Trichy, Rajmohan said police had begun preventive action from the first day of the govt assuming office.“Charge-sheeted offenders and repeat offenders are being identified. Preventive arrests are being made, and officials are holding consultations in several places. Measures are being taken from city outskirts to other districts to maintain law and order,” he said.Govt had a “zero tolerance” policy against crime, Rajmohan said adding that swift action had been taken in recent incidents and accused persons were arrested quickly. On criticism over alliance politics, Rajmohan said,. “In a democracy, parties are free to decide whom they want to align with. It is not right to say a party is good when it is with you and bad when it leaves you.”
