In West Bengal’s Harirampur, Trinamool Congress’ Biplab Mitra won by 93,098 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Debabrata Majumder lost by 1,986 votes, getting 91,112 votes.Harirampur in 2026 will see a contest between incumbent TMC MLA Biplab Mitra, BJP’s Debabrata Majumder, and Congress candidate Subhasish Pal (Sona).Harirampur is an assembly constituency in Dakshin Dinajpur district, part of the Balurghat Lok Sabha seat. It covers Buniadpur Municipality and the Harirampur and Bansihari community development blocks. The area is predominantly rural, with significant Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe populations. Historically a TMC-leaning seat after 2011, it briefly slipped to the Left in 2016.In 2016, the CPI(M)’s Raikul Islam defeated TMC’s Biplab Mitra, bucking the statewide TMC trend. However, in 2021, Biplab Mitra bounced back strongly for TMC, defeating the BJP’s Nilanjan Roy by a commanding margin of over 22,000 votes — one of the more decisive TMC wins in the region. Mitra is now the sitting MLA and TMC’s chosen candidate for 2026 as well, making him the favourite on paper. However, the BJP’s strong performance in the Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency in 2024, where Sukanta Majumdar won, suggests the saffron party retains considerable presence in the area.
