Trump Used To Hate Inflation. Now He Says He Loves It. What Changed?
Back in 2019, Donald Trump called low inflation “a beautiful thing.” Inflation means prices going up. Most people don’t like high inflation because it makes things like food, petrol, and clothes more expensive.
But now Trump is saying something very different: “I love the inflation.”
That might sound strange because for years he warned that inflation was terrible. During the 2024 election campaign, he promised voters that he would bring prices down. Even way back in 2011, he complained that government policies could cause inflation.
So why the sudden change?
Critics say it’s because Trump doesn’t like admitting mistakes. If something he did leads to higher prices, he tends to argue that everything is still going according to plan.
The problem is that prices have been rising. Petrol in the US has become much more expensive in just a few months, and inflation is now higher than what the country’s central bank wants.
Some people blame Trump’s policies, including tariffs and the long-running conflict with Iran. What was expected to be a short military operation has stretched on for many weeks, and nobody knows when it will end.
Trump argues that once the war is over, oil prices and inflation will fall. Maybe he’s right. But the big question is: when will that happen?
Until then, ordinary people have to deal with higher prices and a slower economy. And just like someone trying to stay afloat in deep water, they have to keep pumping and working harder to keep their heads above the surface.
